We strongly encourage nominations of folks who belong to communities of color, the trans community, the disabled community, and other historically marginalized communities in addition to folks who are female-identifying, low-income or hold identities that are often overlooked and underrepresented.

Evaluation and selection
The process of selecting the recipient of the Hostetter-Habib Award will begin with a nomination period lasting four weeks. During this period, nominations will be accepted from any supporter of Family Equality. At the end of the nomination period, the Selection Committee (consisting of the President and CEO; Vice President, Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships; a member of the Hostetter-Habib Family; two members of the National Board of Directors; and the 2025 Night at the Pier Event Co-Chairs) will consider and evaluate all nominations. The Selection Committee will decide on the award recipient by a simple majority vote. That recipient will be publicly recognized and presented with the award on stage at the Night at the Pier gala on Monday, May 12.
